Nelson Mandela came to Parliament Square today 29th August 2007 to be there when the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and the Mayor of London, Ken Livingston unveiled a statue of the world’s most famous man, Nelson Mandela, himself.
Ken Livingston, the Mayor of London, spoke about the challenges of getting a statue in somewhere central in London and then they chose Parliament Square. The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, Richard Attenborough both sat on the platform with Nelson Mandela and his second wife, Dame Mandela.
